Kybella is a synthetic version of deoxycholic acid, a molecule found naturally in your gastrointestinal tract that works to metabolize fat. Kybella permanently destroys fat cells in the process and tightens the skin surrounding the treatment area.
Kybella Kills Fat and Tightens Skin
When Kybella is injected, the fat cells are destroyed almost immediately. Kybella also stimulates the formation of new collagen in the area, which results in tighter skin and a more youthful appearance.
Candidates for Kybella are evaluated by the physician during the initial consultation. Patients should generally be in good health and should refrain from cigarette smoking and blood thinners such as aspirin and anti-inflammatories prior to the procedure.
In preparation for the procedure, the treatment area will be cleaned with a medical grade solution. A decal is then placed under the chin to assure even placement of the injection sites. The number and distribution of the injection site will depend on the anatomical location of the fat under the chin.
Immediately after Kybella is injected, there tends to be a burning sensation which dissipates after approximately five minutes. We will typically place ice-packs under the chin after all of the injections are completed, and the patient may continue with ice-packs the following day to help reduce swelling. At least two treatment sessions are required for the optimal results.
